Industrial Self-Cleaning Filters & Grading Systems for Spices and Oleoresins

Spices have always played a vital role in cooking, making it essential for manufacturers to meet growing demand while delivering consistent product quality. As part of an initiative to modernize their plant, a prominent spice manufacturer turned to JS Vibro for a reliable solution to improve the separation and filtration stages of their production. With growing demand and higher quality expectations from global markets, the company needed technology that could deliver consistent output, lower downtime, and ensure hygienic processing.

To meet these needs, JS Vibro recommended its industry-leading Vibro Sifter and Ribbon Blender. The Vibro Sifter provided accurate grading of powdered spices, ensuring uniform particle sizes and removing unwanted contaminants before further processing. Meanwhile, the Ribbon Blender was implemented for homogeneous mixing of spice powders, delivering consistent batches essential for both direct packaging and solvent extraction stages.

In the oleoresin extraction process, spices such as black pepper, turmeric, red chili, and rosemary are cut, powdered, pelletized, and then subjected to solvent extraction using hexane, acetone, or ethyl acetate. This creates miscella, a liquid blend containing 5–30% oleoresin.

Before vacuum evaporation removes the solvents, the miscella must be filtered to eliminate wax, fibers, and sediment particles. The manufacturer’s earlier filtration setup used candle filters with cloth media, which required cleaning every 5,000 kg and led to over four hours of daily downtime with two operators.

Following a successful on-site trial, the company adopted the JS Vibro Self-Cleaning Filter, capable of processing 3,000 liters of miscella per hour through a 15-micron stainless steel screen. Its automatic wiper system ensures continuous operation, eliminating the need for manual cleaning or screen replacement.

Thanks to the self-cleaning technology, the filtration line now runs 365 days a year with maintenance needed only once during annual plant shutdown. This upgrade has significantly increased efficiency, reduced labor costs, and eliminated previous production bottlenecks.
