Vibro Sifter, Screen & Separator and Uses
A Vibro Sifter is a circular, gyratory screening machine widely used for separating solid materials and grading particles based on size. It operates through multi-plane vibrations generated by a specially designed vibratory motor equipped with eccentric weights at both the top and bottom of the motor shaft. This motor is mounted vertically at the centre of the screening assembly on a circular base supported by springs, enabling smooth, free vibration while preventing movement from being transferred to the floor.
The top eccentric weight creates horizontal vibrations that move material across the screen toward the edges. The lower weight, set at a specific angle, produces vertical and tangential vibrations, allowing the machine to achieve an efficient screening pattern. By adjusting the angle of the lower weight, operators can control the material flow path, maximizing separation efficiency.
A Vibro Sifter is a rotating, vibrating screening system used for sorting, grading, and scalping in industries such as pharmaceuticals, chemicals, food processing, and cement. Whether you need separation, sizing, or material grading, this machine serves as a complete solution.
Built on the gyro principle, the machine uses a specialized gyro motor placed beneath the vibrating assembly to generate the required gyratory motion. Heavy-duty springs isolate the vibrating assembly from the base, while the eccentric weights produce the centrifugal force needed for effective screening.
Commonly referred to as a Vibro Sieve, safety screener, check screen, or vibrating sifter, this equipment efficiently separates materials—whether solid-solid, solid-liquid, or graded particles. It supports both wet and dry granulation processes, making it versatile across many industries.
Although widely used in pharmaceuticals, chemical processing, cement manufacturing, and food production, the Vibro Sifter can be adapted for other applications as well. Its core function remains the same: to sift and separate materials during processing. This makes the Vibro Sifter an essential piece of equipment in modern industrial operations.
Working Principle Of Vibro Sifter
Although a Vibro Sifter is considered simple industrial equipment, its structure and working mechanism can be complex for many users. This machine is widely used for screening, sieving, grading, and separating materials—both solid-to-solid (when two solids have different characteristics) and solid-to-liquid. It plays a crucial role in processes that require particle separation and size classification.
Industries such as Pharmaceuticals, Chemicals, Cosmetics, Plastics, Paints, Minerals, Rubber, Metal Powders, Detergents, Insecticides, Fertilizers, Dyestuffs, and Colors rely heavily on Vibro Sifters. The machine operates using an unbalanced motor fitted with a double-extended shaft and eccentric weights attached at both ends.
The upper eccentric weight rotates in a plane close to the centre of mass of the assembly. This rotation creates horizontal vibrations, helping material travel across the screen toward the edges. The stronger horizontal movement ensures faster discharge of oversized particles.
The lower eccentric weight rotates below the centre of gravity, creating vertical and tangential vibrations. Increasing this vertical movement boosts material turnover on the screen surface, ensuring maximum passage of fine particles through the mesh.
A Vibro Sifter consists of a screen assembly mounted on a base plate connected to a gyratory motor. Material fed from the inlet falls onto the screen. Particles smaller than the mesh size pass through, while larger particles move to the outlet for discharge. The combination of vibratory motion and accurately positioned eccentric weights ensures efficient separation and grading.
The entire assembly is supported by durable springs that isolate the machine, allowing free vibration without transferring movement to the surrounding structures or floor. The Vibro Sifter operates on the principle of gyratory vibrations, where materials are separated based on particle size. When the motor runs, the screen vibrates, causing materials to move across the mesh according to their size. Springs absorb vibrations and prevent structural damage.
The top weight generates horizontal vibration, enhancing separation efficiency. The bottom weight induces vertical and tangential movement, increasing screen throughput and ensuring smooth material flow. Together, they create a refined and powerful screening action.
Parts of a Vibro Sifter
1. Hopper Lid
Also known as the cover lid, it is made of metal and prevents materials from falling off during vibration. It also protects the product from dust and contamination. A clamping ring secures it tightly to the machine.
2. Filter Screen
The filter screen provides a smooth surface for accurate sieving. Made from fine wire mesh, it helps prevent leakage during processing and is available in different mesh sizes based on machine requirements.
3. Wire Mesh Screen Ring
This is the ring onto which the mesh is bonded using adhesive. The bonding improves durability and ensures the mesh stays intact even under high-intensity vibrations.
4. Oversized Material Outlet
Located at the upper section of the machine, this outlet allows easy discharge of larger particles that are retained after sieving.
5. Screen Material Outlet
Positioned at the bottom of the machine, this outlet discharges finely screened and graded material for collection.
6. Springs
These springs support the machine and absorb vibrations. They keep the upper assembly stable while allowing free vibration, preventing movement from being transmitted to the floor.
7. Control Panel
The control panel houses various operational buttons and displays programmed machine functions. It communicates commands to the Vibro Sifter regarding processes to be performed.
8. Motor
The motor converts electrical power into mechanical vibration energy. Its multi-plane vibration generates the centrifugal force required for screening. Motor size varies based on machine capacity, output requirement, and design.
